SAJE-Funded Counselling for Youth & Young Adults from Care

Based in North Vancouver, I offer virtual counselling for teens, adults, and parents across British Columbia. Walk-and-talk therapy may also be available locally for clients interested in outdoor counselling.

Growing into adulthood doesn’t mean you should have to carry everything alone.

Leaving care and moving into adulthood can bring freedom, possibility, uncertainty, and grief—sometimes all at once. You may be navigating school, work, housing, relationships, identity, and decisions about your future without the consistent support many young adults rely on.

You may also be carrying experiences from the past that still affect how safe you feel with people, how you respond to conflict, or how easily you can trust, ask for help, and believe in yourself. Counselling can offer a steady place to sort through what you have experienced while building a life that feels increasingly like your own. If you were a youth in government care in BC, you may be eligible for fully funded counselling sessions.

What is the SAJE counselling benefit?

Strengthening Abilities and Journeys of Empowerment (SAJE) is a B.C. government program providing supports to eligible young adults with experience in government care.

Effective November 2023, youth and young adults (19-26) who are on/were in care, had an AYA, Unconditional or Conditional Income Support, a SAJE Support or Housing Agreement may receive up to $1,500 per calendar year for approved mental health and counselling services.

Learn more about your eligibility here.

Funding must be approved before counselling begins, and approved sessions are billed directly to the SAJE program. You should not have to pay for an approved session yourself.

Eligibility and funding are determined by the SAJE program—not by Unda Counselling. Your SAJE Guide, MCFD worker, Indigenous Child and Family Service Agency worker, or SAJE Provincial Support Services can help you confirm what is available to you.

My experience supporting children and youth

I have 10 years of experience supporting children, youth, young adults, and families across child and youth mental health, residential, housing support, outreach, school, and community settings. I have supported young people navigating relationship breakdown, addiction, homelessness, family disruption, mental health challenges, life transitions, and systems that can sometimes feel difficult to trust or understand.

I have spent many moments with young people navigating the often complicated, painful, and messy family and children's services systems. I get that being in and transitioning from care can be both really good and really hard, and I aim to provide a safe, relaxed, and hopeful space for young people to connect with support for whatever feels tough right now. You don't have to do this alone.

All Parts Of You Are Welcome Here

Reaching for support can stir up hope, fear, relief, and uncertainty all at once. What matters most in counselling is the connection we create together—because the therapeutic relationship is the heart of meaningful change.

Unda Counselling offers relational, trauma-informed counselling for women navigating caregiving, family relationships, and the patterns that shape how they show up in their lives. I support teens, adults, and parents across British Columbia, with online sessions throughout BC and in-person counselling in North Vancouver.

I sincerely and gratefully acknowledge that Unda Counselling resides on the stolen unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I acknowledge the ways that these peoples have cared for these lands from time immemorial and the cultural and human genocide committed by White European settlers, of who I descend from.
