My Philosophy & Approach to Therapy

Counselling for what moves us, together...

I believe that change begins when we can get curious about the parts of ourselves we have learned to move away from. The feelings we push down, the needs we minimize, the ways we adapt to keep the peace or stay connected. These responses often developed for good reason. They helped us navigate the relationships and circumstances we grew up in. But over time, the ways we learned to protect ourselves can also leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or further from who we want to be.

I believe meaningful change happens when we slow down and get curious about what is happening beneath those patterns—not to judge or fix ourselves, but to understand what we need and what we might be ready to do differently.

Therapy is a place to do this work together. In our work together, I pay attention not only to what you share, but to what you feel, what happens in your body, and what unfolds in the space between us. We make room for the experiences that may not have had space elsewhere, while drawing on the strengths, instincts, and resources you already carry. Rather than simply talking about doing things differently, we begin to explore what it feels like to have different choices, to relate to yourself with more compassion, and to experience connection in new ways.

I believe we are shaped by our relationships, and that relationships can be places where something new becomes possible. Through our relationship in therapy, we can begin undoing some of that aloneness — making space for experiences of being met, understood, and supported without having to hide parts of yourself or earn your place. From there, change isn't about becoming someone else. It's about creating room to be more fully yourself, with greater freedom in how you relate to yourself and the people in your life.

How I Work

I see therapy as a collaborative process. We meet in the middle and gently sort through what’s asking for attention, discovering together the ways I can best support you. It feels a bit like a dance—sometimes I guide, sometimes you do, and often we move together in a rhythm that shifts moment to moment. However we arrive, my intention is always to deepen your sense of safety, support, and growth. I hold a strong belief in your autonomy, creating space for you to name what you need while I stay attuned to the pace, adjusting our steps whenever something calls for slowing down or moving differently.

Inclusive, Trauma-Aware, and Anti-Racist Care

I am deeply committed to providing a safe and welcoming space for people of all backgrounds, identities, religious affiliations, sexual orientations, and abilities. I believe quality care should be both offered and accessible to everyone. My work is grounded in respect, curiosity, inclusivity, and the fundamental human right to belong. I am also committed to maintaining a practice that does not overlook the historical and ongoing trauma caused by systems of patriarchy, colonialism, the Indian Residential School system, cultural genocide, and racism.

Some modalities I draw from:

Parts Work

We all have parts of ourselves that learned to protect us in different ways. Parts work invites us to approach these patterns with curiosity and compassion, making room for greater self-understanding and new ways of responding.

Eye Movement Desensitizaton & Reproecessing

Past experiences can continue to shape how we feel and respond in the present. EMDR supports the processing of distressing experiences so they can feel less overwhelming and have less hold on our lives. Read more here.

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy

Our closest relationships can bring up big feelings and familiar patterns. Drawing from EFFT, I support parents and caregivers in understanding emotional needs, repairing disconnection, and building stronger connections with their children and teens.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness invites us to slow down and notice what is happening in the present moment without judgment. These practices can help us meet our thoughts and feelings with greater awareness, space, and compassion.

Attachment & Relational Therapies

We are shaped by our relationships, and relationships can be places where change becomes possible. Drawing from attachment-based approaches, including AEDP and Emotion-Focused Therapy, I pay attention to how we relate to ourselves and others, and how new experiences of connection can open up new possibilities.

Somatics and Embodied Awareness

Our experiences live in our bodies as well as our minds. I invite curiosity about bodily sensations, emotions, and impulses as a way of better understanding ourselves and what we need.

All Parts Of You Are Welcome Here

Reaching for support can stir up hope, fear, relief, and uncertainty all at once. What matters most in counselling is the connection we create together—because the therapeutic relationship is the heart of meaningful change.
